Richard Jett- Richard was a founding member of
the Eastern Kentucky Heritage Monument. Although he has passed away, his
spirit forever remains a major guiding influence of this project.
The Eastern Kentucky Heritage Monument is a grassroots project. A brief description of its development is as follows: The need for the idea originated with Richard Jett in an Alliance for Progress meeting in Campton, KY. Local resident David Musser created and presented the monument proposal. The Wolfe County Monument Committee formed to develop the concept. The Appalachian Heritage Alliance actively sustained and promoted the vision. The Mountain Parkway Trails Corridor (a division of SEKTDA adopted the project as a priority with the full understanding that it was an economic development project to benefit all of Eastern and Appalachian Kentucky. Eleven County Judge Executives and dozens of other local government agencies and civic organizations have signed on in support of the project.
